Bikes

Bret and I borrowed bikes from Katie and Byron and headed out the North Gate of campus to the nearby village on Saturday. Despite the incredible heat (Qufu has been hot hot hot the past couple days) it was a beautiful bike ride! The village is really cute...and the wheat fields are really beautiful, I felt like I was definitely in China! Our only regret...not stopping to play marbles with the 3 little kids we rode by! :)

Me and the bride

It's been a billion years since my last post...and i apologize! Things have become super duper busy here with the end of the semester coming and the fact that i'm flying back to the states July 6th! (wow do i ever have a lot to do and see before that day!) But I thought I would take a minute to share a recent event we attended....
So some of you may know that we frequent a small dive in Qufu that is NEVER full of people and where we are supreme rock stars! Well one of the owners of the bar, Pungchao (no idea if i spelled that right, but i usually just refer to him as PC), decided it was time to get married. We are pretty sure that this decision was made so that he can have a son and not because he plans to change his partying ways...a little bit disturbing...but we were thrilled none the less to get invited to the wedding! Chinese weddings are pretty different from US weddings...we didn't actually see any kind of wedding ceremony, just the party/banquet which basically involved some speeches, LOTS of toasting and drinking, and amazing food. It was over pretty fast...but it was still fun! Maybe the strangest event was when a huge group of PC's friends grabbed his wife and forced her into the lap of another man while PC tried to fight them off....this sounds scary ad violent and bizarre...and it was...but it was all done in fun and everyone was laughing and cheering at the end. Anyway...now we have seen a Chinese wedding...of a gangster!!! :)
